Buena Vista Socialbar
December 3rd, 2008 by Frans Prins Posted in Activism, Berlin & Germany, Design, Environment, Trends & Marketing, WebYesterday I visited the Socialbar in Berlin, a monthly event where NGO meets web2.0. There were presentations of Karsten Wenzlaf from Nachhall Texter, who involved in the Obama campaign and presented his experiences, Florian Noto from the anti-nuclear campaign Atomausstieg Selber Machen, and Holm Friebe, director of the Zentrale Intelligenz Agentur.
Holm Friebe presented his new book Marke Eigenbau “The Selfmade Brand”, where he describes the growth of a mass movement against mass production. In his opinion we stand before a revolution of the homemade, of people doing things themselves, of My Logo as a reaction on No Logo. On the website of the book, small producers present their products.
As the name suggests, the Socialbar is also a hangout club for restless internet revolutionaries. The Socialbar concept is spreading, new Socialbars are opening in Essen and Vienna, and who knows where more…
Event tip for webtivists: Open Everything, Saturday the 6th of December in Berlin, HongKong and Madison (USA). The Open Everything in Berlin takes place at the Newthinking Store, and issues discussed go from Creative Commons to Open Source Fashion.
