Carticipate: Hitchhiking with your iPhone

September 30th, 2008 by Frans Posted in Blog, Travel, Trends & Marketing

I used to be a hitchhiker of the old, adventurous style, thumbs up, and there we go. Since some years, you can book your carsharings and hitchhikes in Germany and Europe easily online. But getting a ride just by connecting with your iPhone, that’s different. That’s just, wow…

Okay, it might be all marketing for an expensive made-in-china gadget, but if this gets successful, you could just check your phone, and be picked up in a minute to your destination. If a lot of people join, this can become a strong way to beat both our CO2 emissions and the high gas prices. And add a bit of adventure to traveling again.

Carticipate on the iPhone is the first ride sharing application on a location aware mobile platform and is available as a free download on Apple’s App Store on iTunes.

“Location-based smart phones and social networks are colliding with a rise in fuel prices driving the carticipation model where social transportation will compliment and augment public transportation.”

And if your iPhone doesn’t work, you can always use your thumb…
