Recycling Fashion with Recycle Your Jeans
February 16th, 2008 by Frans Prins Posted in Blog, Fashion, Recycling
Recycle your jeans is a business that turns your own old jeans into new, funky sandals. You send them your old pair of jeans, and they make a pair of shoes or sandals out of them. The sandals are made in the UK.
Cradle-to-cradle-fashion
Quite a fun cradle-to-cradle recycling concept. If this kind of projects really reduce carbon footprints, as the company suggests, I doubt, but recycling old jeans into sandals sounds sustainable enough. A new wave of creative recycling attempts is on it’s way and there are more and more advanced techniques to recycle old products into new ones. Often it’s even invisible for the consumer, in example with some of the clothes of Patagonia.
Here in Germany I hear people being quite skeptical about using recycling in clothing, well these kind of innovative projects will hopefully set foot here as well and change the attitude!

I always get a kick out of recycled products such as these. Definitely one of the coolest I’ve seen is the company that makes handbags out of old license plates. Who would have thought?? Good work..

I tend to take my unwanted clothing to 2nd hand shops. This is another awesome option.

i would imagine there are lots of un-used jeans out there so finding a way to recycle them would be great and this post shows that something wonderful can be done with them. thanks for sharing

This is truly spectacular. I run a waste removal and junk hauling business in Walnut Creek, California, and while I typically help businesses clean out their offices, I also help homeowners who are doing their spring cleaning or even getting rid of old clothing from a deceased parent.
The point is, most of this stuff gets thrown out and it’s a terrible waste, especially when services such as this highlight just how much can actually be done with it.
I do try and take stuff to the salvation army and Goodwill when the clothes seems salvageable, but it’s not always possible. Usually it just gets thrown out.
I wish this ‘Recycle your jeans’ company had an office in America. I would absolutely use this service.
